When designing their own home, one strives to have maximum free space, especially if you have land constraints. In a log home, the roof limits the height of the attic floor. Hence the second floor always has smaller space than the ground floor. However, this effect can be minimized in log and timber frame houses by using extension poles. An extension pole is the end support for the rafter system which is extended beyond the axis of the bearing wall. This element allows you to increase the living space of the attic floor because the roof does not begin from the floor level but 1.2–1.5 meters above.
At the same time, extension poles do not affect the general appearance of the house. They are mostly hidden the roof slopes, and their butt-ends can be decorated with the carving, which will enhance the aesthetical appearance of the home.
